Outpatient care is any care without hospitalisation or day hospitalisation, for example a consultation with a doctor, a radiological examination or treatment in the Emergency department.
The invoice for outpatient care must be paid within 30 calendar days of being sent. Always mention the structured communication. You can also pay at the Admissions and registration desk. This can be done by Bancontact, Maestro, Mastercard and Visa.
Any complaints about services or prices charged must be reported in writing to the Patient invoicing department within 8 calendar days of receiving the invoice.
Please refer to the general terms and conditions.
Invoice layout for outpatient care
The layout of the invoice is determined by law, every hospital uses the same model.
The first part of the invoice contains:
- your identification data and those of UZ Gent
- a summary of the costs, divided into a maximum of 6 sections
- an overview of any advances paid
- the amount you have to pay
- the amount charged to your health insurance fund.
The invoice then contains the details of the costs, broken down into a maximum of 6 sections. Only the sections that apply to you are listed.
- Fees
- Pharmacy: medicines, parapharmacy, implants, medical devices
- Other supplies
- Patient transport
- Miscellaneous charges
- VAT
Who pays what?
The amounts on the hospital bill are listed in three columns:
- Costs covered by the health insurance fund: these are charged directly to your health insurance fund or insurance institution through the third-party payment system
- Costs payable by the patient: this is the so-called co-payment, which you must pay yourself
- Supplements: you also have to pay any supplements that non-contracted or partially contracted health care providers may charge.
Good to know
- Anyone who is not in order with their health insurance must pay all costs themselves.
- For costs not reimbursed by the health insurance fund, you can submit a request for reimbursement to your hospitalisation insurance.
- If you are being treated for a work-related accident, you must report this to the Admissions and registration desk. Make sure you have the necessary information with you. The invoice will then be sent directly to workers' compensation insurance.
- It is possible that you will receive an invoice for outpatient care without having been to UZ Gent. For example, if your doctor had laboratory analyses carried out in our hospital or if an MUG team from UZ Gent provided assistance to an ambulance.
- If you have given UZ Gent permission to contact you by email or text message, we can contact you about financial and administrative data via these channels. You can withdraw your permission at any time by sending an email to the Admissions and registration department: aanmeldeneninschrijven@uzgent.be.
