Fees

Medical and paramedical fees (honoraria) are the fees you pay for the services of doctors, physical therapists and other health care providers. These fees (without supplements) are legally established by the INAMI-RIZIV in the medical procedures nomenclature.

Types of fees

A distinction is made on the hospital bill between:

• Fees fully covered by the health insurance fund
  For these services, no co-payment or supplement is payable by the patient.
• Fees with co-payment and/or fee supplement
  The co-payment or personal contribution is determined by law.
  Fee supplements may be charged only if you have opted for a single room.
• Fees for non-reimbursable benefits
  These services are not reimbursed by the health insurance fund and are fully payable by the patient.
• Personal contribution for technical services
  For each admission, you pay the legally stipulated amount of 16.40 euros as a personal contribution for all technical services. Those who are entitled to the enhanced reimbursement do not have to pay this amount.

Fee supplements

Shared room

If you are staying in a shared room, no fee supplements will be charged.

Single Room

If you opt for a single room, healthcare providers may charge supplements on their fees:

• The standard rate is 150 percent
• For orthopedic and ophthalmic procedures and performance anesthesia, up to 200 percent supplements may be charged
• For plastic surgery and some robot-assisted urological procedures, up to 300 percent supplements may be charged

You do not pay room and fee supplements:

• if you are admitted to a single room for medical reasons
• if you stay in a single room for organisational reasons, for example because no other room was available
• if you were admitted to an intensive care unit or emergency department
• if a child was admitted together with an accompanying parent. The admission takes place in a double room or shared room

You do not pay a room supplement (but you do pay a fee supplement)

• iif, at your express request, your child is admitted and cared for in an individual room under your supervision
