The costs of treatment are partly covered by health insurance and partly by you. If you have hospitalisation insurance, ask your insurer which amounts are eligible for reimbursement.
A cost estimate will give you an idea of how much you will have to pay for treatment. For common treatments, you can easily draw up a cost estimate yourself. For other treatments, you can ask us to make an estimate.
Please note: a cost estimate only gives an approximate amount. The final invoice may differ due to unforeseen circumstances.
Drawing up an estimate
The basic amount of a cost estimate is calculated as follows:
- all expected medical costs
- all expected accommodation and other non-medical costs
For patients without valid health insurance , we add:
- for low-risk procedures: 15 percent on top of the basic amount
- for high-risk interventions: 30 percent on top of the basic amount
- in some cases: a handling fee of 100 euros.
Requesting an estimate
If you are in line with Belgian health insurance, you can request a cost estimate free of charge and without obligation from the Patient invoicing department.
Patients who do not have Belgian health insurance can request the cost estimate from Cel SoFIA - team buitenland. A handling fee may be charged.
A cost estimate for a planned admission must be requested at least 10 working days in advance. In order to prepare a personalised estimate, we gather information from the medical department. This takes some time.
