Each hospital has the right to request an advance payment. The maximum amount is set by law.
Do I have to pay an advance payment?
You do not have to pay an advance payment if:
- you are a member of a Belgian health insurance fund
- you have European health insurance (EU) and you can present a payment commitment from your insurance company.
You do have to pay an advance payment if
- you do not have health insurance
- it concerns a treatment that is not reimbursed by the health insurance, e.g. plastic surgery for purely aesthetic reasons
Do you still have outstanding invoices at UZ Gent? Then you will be asked to pay them when you register. If you do not, you will still have to pay an advance.
How much is the advance payment?
The advance payment depends on the nature of the intervention, the length of stay and the choice of room. The amounts paid are deducted from the final invoice.
The table below shows the legal maximum amounts per seven-day stay.
| With enhanced reimbursement | Dependent children | Other patients | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared room | 50 euro | 75 euro | 150 euro |
| Single room | 365 euro | 390 Euros | 465 euros |
