In the pre-admission centre, you will visit different team members.
Interview with the staff member from Admissions and registration
You will be explained about the admission (declaration), choice of room, your health insurance etc. During this meeting, you ask all your administrative questions and sign the admission statement. Any paper documents you have with you, such as questionnaires and reports, you hand in here. We will store the relevant information in your patient file. The staff member at Sign-in and Registration also checks that we have all the necessary administrative data and that they are correct.
Conversation with the pharmacy assistant
The pharmacy assistant goes over your medication schedule and saves it in your file. You will later hear from the anaesthetist which medication you can and cannot take in the period around the operation.
Discussion with the nurse
The nurse will review the content of your completed preoperative questionnaire, ask additional questions and check whether you need support after the operation. If so, a social worker will be called in.
The nurse also measures your heart rate, blood pressure, saturation and weight and records important data in a report for the doctor.
Sometimes you may need some more tests before the operation. This depends on the information in your file and the operation you will have. Among other things, the nurse may take a blood sample or perform an electrocardiogram or nasal swab.
Discussion with the anaesthetist
The anaesthetist will ask you more questions and examine you. If we determine that information is missing to get a good picture of your health, the anaesthetist will refer you for a consultation or examination with another doctor.
The anaesthetist follows up the results of the additional preoperative examinations. Once he has gone through all the details, he will contact you to discuss the latest guidelines for the impending procedure. The anaesthetist will also tell you what medication you will need to take in the period surrounding the operation.
