What do we do in the pre-admission centre (PAC)?
- We review your administrative record.
- We measure important parameters, such as heart rate, blood pressure and saturation.
- We perform preoperative tests, such as a blood draw or ECG.
- We take stock of your health condition.
- You are explained about the anaesthesia.
- If necessary, we make appointments with other specialists.
When do you come to the PAC?
You should preferably come to the PAC at least three weeks before your operation. This gives us enough time to prepare you properly.
How do you get an appointment?
All patients undergoing surgery at Ghent University Hospital can come to the PAC. Usually, the outpatient clinic staff member will arrange the appointment for you. You can also indicate yourself in the digital pre-operative questionnaire that you would find a consultation at the PAC useful. We will then contact you to make an appointment.
Who should definitely come to the PAC?
Do you meet one of these criteria? Then you should definitely come to the PAC:
- You are over 70 years old.
- You have a BMI of more than 35.
- You take five or more medicines.
- You are receiving a major or complex surgery.
The outpatient staff member will arrange the appointment for you and ask you to complete the digital preoperative questionnaire.
