A hospital brings many emotions with it. Sometimes you need silence, a moment to find calm, or a place to give loss and grief a space. On the UZ Gent campus, you will find several places where you can slow down for a while: the quiet room, the comfort garden and the chapel.
Quiet room, a peaceful place to reconnect with yourself
In the quiet room, you can briefly escape the busy hospital environment. It is a calm and peaceful place: somewhere to rest or grieve, reflect, or simply spend some time in silence with yourself. In the cabinet at the entrance, you will find materials (e.g. booklets and prayer resources) that may help you.
You can reach the quiet room via entrance 12, route 1204. It is open every hour of the day. We ask you to use the space responsibly and respect other users. The quiet room is not a place for conversations or a waiting area.
Comfort garden, a welcoming place for everyone
The comfort garden at UZ Gent offers patients, visitors, staff and local residents of all ages a peaceful place to grieve and reflect. Here, you can simply be yourself, away from the bustle of the hospital and surrounded by the calming presence of nature. Sometimes it helps to pause, let go of expectations, and find comfort in a green, peaceful setting. The garden also provides space for personal rituals, remembrance, or quiet moments shared with others.
The comfort garden (grassy area behind Entrance 75) is open and freely accessible 24 hours a day.
Would you like to write a letter to someone who has passed away?
You can post your letter in the comfort garden's mailbox. The UZ Gent mail service empties the mailbox regularly and delivers the letters to Post Office 00/00/00.
Chapel, a peaceful place for reflection
The chapel on the UZ Gent campus (entrance 84) is a place where everyone is welcome to take a moment to find peace, become quiet, or find strength. You can go there for reflection, prayer, or simply a moment of silence, away from the bustle of the hospital.
The chapel also hosts Eucharistic celebrations and services with readings and communion.
