Smoke-free hospital
The smoking ban at UZ Gent applies inside and outside. Government inspectors can fine you if you ignore the smoking ban.
Why a smoke-free hospital?
- Smoking damages health
- Bystanders also inhale harmful tobacco smoke
- Children who see smoking are more likely to smoke themselves
- Butts cause a nuisance
Want to stop smoking? Contact the tobaccoologists at UZ Gent on 09 332 95 00.
Smoking or vaping is only allowed in the smoking pavilions. You can find the exact locations on the campus map (2.23 MB) "pdf"
Mobile phone use
Use of mobile phones in the hospital is allowed. However, you must keep one metre away from all medical equipment in use.
Flowers, plants and other gifts
To avoid risk of infection, you are not allowed to bring flowers, plants or other gifts on high-risk wards such as Haematology or Oncology wards, Haemodialysis, Burns centre and Intensive Care. If in doubt, seek advice from a nurse.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome at UZ Gent.
- However, the dog must be recognisable by its jacket.
- The owner must be able to present the pass upon request.
- The dog is not allowed to roam freely on the ward.
- The owner or a family member is responsible for looking after the dog.
Assistance dogs may not enter high-risk departments such as the Operating unit, Maternity complex, Haematology or Oncology departments, Haemodialysis, Burns centre and Intensive care.
