The Intercultural mediation (ICB) team at UZ Gent offers language assistance and mediation. The intercultural mediators help patients who do not know enough Dutch or are unfamiliar with Belgian healthcare and culture.

The ICB team has seven intercultural mediators:

The ICB team works closely with other hospitals. As a result, remote language assistance can also be provided for a wide range of languages: Albanian, Arabic (standard, Maghrebian), Berber, Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian, Bulgarian, Dari, Italian, Kurdish, Macedonian, Ukrainian, Pashtu, Polish, Russian, Somali, Chechen, Tigrinya Turkish, Urdu and Flemish Sign Language.
